New York Times Bestselling Author Charlie Lovett, “The Paradox Club”

  • Tide to Table 1 Norris Drive Pawleys Island, South Carolina, 29585 United States (map)

CHARLIE LOVETT was born in Winston-Salem, NC and grew up as the child of a book-collecting English professor. In 1984 he went into the antiquarian book business, and he began to seriously collect books and other materials relating to Lewis Carroll, author of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Lovett now has a large collection of Carrollian rare books and artifacts, including Carroll’s 1888 typewriter and one of three privately owned copies of the first edition of Alice in Wonderland. After completing his MFA, Lovett lived in England becoming closely connected to the village of Kingham, Oxfordshire. Ten years later, he and his wife purchased the cottage they had rented in 1997 and renovated it. His experiences in England have served as the inspiration for several of his novels.

From the New York Times Bestselling Author of THE BOOKMAN’S TALE & THE ENIGMA AFFAIR comes a lightning-paced mystery about a brilliant yet troubled young woman and her connection to a secret society where knowledge is power—and her father's research is the key to its most dangerous secret…

Tess Maxwell grew up fascinated by the stars and her father Harry's stories and his scientific lessons. But ever since Harry's death ten years ago, Tess has felt out of sync with the world and suspects that there's more to her father's work—and death—than anyone has let on.

When she discovers a cryptic puzzle he left behind, she's thrust into the hidden world of the Paradox Club, a covert organization operating out of an unremarkable Manhattan brownstone. But the club is fracturing, a rogue member is moving to exploit its most dangerous secrets, and Tess becomes a pawn in a battle for control of the society and the world‑altering information it protects.
